Step It Up

Unfortunately for me, I haven't really seen any live music since my last post. Hopefully I can get out to The Espy this week to see The Bamboos again, who have a new album.
But at the rate I'm going with work, I'm thinking I'll be hideously tired by then...yes, speaking of work. Well, it's busy. This'll probably be my last day off for a couple of weeks. We open in 5 days...dayum. We had our first event on the weekend, a fairy birthday party. Kids are really funny...tiring, but funny. My body is still paying for it, but maybe that's good because over the next few weeks, I might be able to gather enough muscle strain to constitute exercise!

A few other happenings here and there, funnily enough, you'll only get to hear about the ones I took photos at :P

Yvette's birthday lunch (wayyy back in May)

As you can see, Nathaniel's hair is getting out of control.

Andy & Em's Cocktail Party

I could only stay for a short while, but as you can see, Al made full use of liquid facilities!

Dinner with Krystin & Ed

I know, it looks like Krystin is a celebrity, and we the adoring fans...

Adele is a DJ at Monash University...

I made her say, "sweet tunes"

A night of chatter, Shakira/Beyonce recognition and Articulate...

...we couldn't find the game pieces, so the teams were
Red Grape, Green Grape, Mini Toast and Mini Tape.

May Yen's baby shower

Goes to show how out of date my blog has become; May Yen gave birth two days ago!
Photos of little Grace to come...

P.S. I went to the States more than a year ago...woah.

Decipher Me

I'm the kind of person that never likes spending money on frivolous things; but when it comes to live music I am weak every time. Thankfully what I've seen recently has been as cheap as a really expensive bag of chips. ($18 and $30 respectively)

First off, Brooke Fraser @ Manchester Lane.

She signed my CD and was super patient even when my camera ran out of battery (at which point I told the piece of equipment "I hate you!") and I scrambled to get Seki to use her swanky mobile phone instead. She is INCREDIBLE...i'd like to marry her voice. See her if you ever get the chance.
"Can you sign my child please?!"

Ewnice's birthday drinks @ 3 Degrees, QV

1. sid, ewnice, me, beer.
2. bday girl, me, darrell, jonno and his mouse face, scott.

Fungus Kung Fu Rally @ DSC

4. Mini Sumo wrestler Nathaniel
5. Everybody

An arvo with friends we met in Canada

1. Leigh, Pegs, Cathy, me, Andy, lunch @ Blue Train
2. The girls testing out EVERY massage chair in Myer
Cathy and Andy were in M-Town for a few days from Tassie...it was like no time at all had passed since we last waved them farewell at the Montreal, Canada bus station at 4am on that crazy night so many months ago :D

Something For Kate @ The Corner Hotel, Richmond

1. Pegs & I with my permanent awesome-gig buddy, Al
2. Pegs & I with SFK concert newbie Leigh
3. The legends themselves on stage

They were amazing; played lots of old stuff and served as a reminder as to why I was so obsessed with them in school. My love's been reignited.

Evaporated

I think part of the reason I haven't posted anything in a while is due to the fact that my parents are currently overseas and have taken the camera with them. Who wants to hear about life unless it's in full colour?!
I'll do what I can with the few images I have from the dodgy camera (which no longer works at all) and perhaps even insert some text. Here are my highlights since the last post...in point form because I can't deal with prose right now.
  • Working at the tie store is DUNZO :)
  • I went to a gelati appreciation course and tried every flavour
    (plus it was free!)
  • I worked a couple days at a school holiday program.
    Prep kids are awesome.
  • I'm now officially working for Day Dreamers...a kids' indoor play centre opening in June
  • My parents are away, so I'm basically living alone til the end of the month. It ain't half bad.
  • The discovery that it really does only take 10 mintues from Annabelle's house to mine (minus traffic of course)
  • Saw The Bamboos and Alice Russell live, and was so glad I wore my dancing shoes. Especially for the marching band version of 'Sexual Healing' that play between sets.
  • Totally wiped myself out by going to the Point Nepean Music Festival the next day for the Easter weekend. But it was awesome. Ben Harper, John Mayer, Missy Higgins, Ben Kweller, Ozomatli, The Waifs, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, Taj Mahal
  • Considering the empty house and big TV, I hosted a bum nite ol' school style. Props to Eddie for her incredible apple crumble, and Ros...for wearing trackies and her year 12 rugby top! Keeping it real.
  • And, just last week I did dumplings followed by Ross Noble at the Melbourne Town Hall. "F***in TIM TAMS!!!" "Go get me two shaven wombats." Some seriously funny stuff.
  • I went to Shaun's 16th birthday party. Yes, 16. I am old. But there were two lambs on spits...meat galore. My kind of party!
Here are the few photos I have.

If you look really hard, it's Joel, Pegs, Ed, Al and Andy.
Yes, that's right, my camera's screwed.

Billy Zane: When you gonna drop Magnum on us, buddy?

Bryan is back from his year in Japan, yay!
Also, Andrew (Theo) and Joel are in M-town for a few days.
